Juvia’s Place: The Zulu Palette

Inspired by the rich arts of the Ndebele people of South Africa and filled with eccentric hues, earth tones and exotic metallic shades. Today, I present to you: The Zulu Palette.

4th of December 2017 is when I bought my first ever Juvia’s Place palette. The Magic Palette (review here). My review was very positive and I was in love with the packaging. Since then, new eyeshadow palettes have been released such as the Douce and the Festival Palette. However, I couldn’t get my eyes of the Zulu Palette. You already know that I have a weakness for editorial and bright colours and this palette looks like it has all the standard colours of the rainbow in one. Let’s review, shall we?

I really adore the packaging. It comes in a white box which has a prismatic effect, as you can see in the pictures. The ingredients and inspiration are on the back of the box. The actual palette has the same design as the box, including the prismatic effect. I also really adore the intricate illustrations of what I assume is a person of the Ndebele people. The Zulu palette is smaller than The Magic palette and comes in nine shades. The majority are mattes and three of them are shimmers. The inside of the palette is absolutely gorgeous, to be honest. This obviously isn’t your everyday neutral palette but I love the colour selection! The only thing that is a bit unfortunate it the fact that there are no shade names. The Zulu palette is cruelty-free.

Now, let’s talk about the formula. The formula is definitely a bit more dry than the formula in the Magic Palette and this affects the pigmentation a bit. The colours are slightly less pigmented but still blend effortlessly. All of the mattes are easy to build up and blend very nicely, apart from the red/pink colour in the third row. This shade sticks to the place where you first apply it and is hard to blend and build up after that first application. None of the colours are excessively powdery, except for the orange and the purple which has a good amount of kick-up and fall-out. The shimmers have a metallic finish and feel extremely smooth and buttery. They have an insane amount of colour payoff and blend nicely with the rest of the shades.

First row:

  • A matte bright orange
  • A matte true yellow
  • A rich warm-toned brown

Second row:

  • A matte teal
  • A vibrant light green (metallic)
  • A light aqua blue (metallic)

Third row:

  • A duo-chrome muted pink with gold-peach reflect (metallic)
  • A matte hot pink with a red undertone
  • A mid-toned purple

I had a hard time choosing my favourite shades from this palette. Simply because I love all of them so much. It truly is a diverse and different palette in my collection. However, I love the matte yellow, the matte teal and the green shimmer the most! The green being my absolute favourite colour in this palette. The green is incredibly pigmented and vibrant! Now, a look.

I used the yellow, teal, blue and green for this look and I love it so much! I think it might be one of my favourite looks I have done in a really long time. Make sure to follow me on Instagram (@peculiarbelgian) because I will be posting more looks with this palette after this review. The Zulu palette retails for โ‚ฌ23.50 and is available on Beauty Bay.

What do you think of the Zulu Palette? Is this something you might want to purchase? And what do you think of bright colours? They’re my favourite!
Lots of love and see you next time!

  5. There has been so much hype around this palette. It is so pretty but I wish there was a combo of both the super cute bright colours and neutral colours. There needs to be like one more row of neutral colours then it would be life!
