Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist Super Natural Concealer: Worth The Price?

Expensive high-end makeup. I often wonder if it’s worth the price tag. Today, I will be reviewing quite a pricey concealer. Let’s get cracking!

Sometimes you browse through Beauty Bay and you come across a product that makes you think twice. Is it really that good? Am I prepared to pay that much money for it? The last time I had this feeling was with the brand Kevyn Aucoin. I didn’t own anything by them, not even the ever so popular contour powder, but that changed once I bought the Etherealist Super Natural Concealer. A concealer with a whopping price tag of €24,75 on Beauty Bay. Today is the day that I tell you, my dear readers, what I think of this concealer.

“A universal liquid concealer.

Perfecting the complexion, The Etherealist Super Natural Concealer corrects, covers and highlights. Creating a natural satin finish, the unique blend of brightening pearls and high-definition pigments minimise the signs of fatigue by reflecting light away from dark circles, discolouration and other imperfections.” – According to Kevyn Aucoin.

I like the packaging of the Super Natural concealer. It comes in a glass tube with a beautiful ombré lid and Kevyn Aucoin printed onto the tube. The concealer also features a standard doe-foot applicator which is nice and fluffy. Maybe a tiny bit to stiff but fluffy and easy to use nonetheless. Simple but sophisticated packaging.

The concealer comes in nine shades, which is a bit dissapointing considering the popularity and wealth they own, and a peachy corrector shade. I’ve seen some people saying that the corrector shade is a light peach and therefore less useable for women of colour. Being a iconic and cult brand, I do hope they will expand their concealers in the future. I wouldn’t call it a ‘universal liquid concealer’. Oh and btw, I have the colour ‘Light EC1’ which is described as a light neutral gold and you get 4,4 ml/0,15 fl oz.

I very much adore this concealer for a couple of reasons. The first being that the consistency of the Etherealist Super Natural Concealer is very pleasant. It has a fluffy mouse-like texture which feels and looks very smooth once you apply it. It also feels extremely lightweight and not heavy in the slightest. The concealer is easy to blend and does so seamlessly.

Pigmentation wise, it’s okay. It’s described as a high-coverage concealer but I would call it a buildable medium coverage. Some darkness around my eyes does still peak through. However, it doesn’t get cakey quickly and neither does it feel heavy whilst building the product up . The concealer has a lovely natural finish, being semi-matte, but it does tend to dry out the under eye after a few hours of wear. The product does dry down quickly, so make sure to blend it just as quickly!

The biggest con to this product and what makes it not worth the price tag is the wearability. This creases under any circumstance and that doesn’t go away by using different methods of applying the product. It settles into fine lines and creases so quickly, it’s insane. I do not love it for that. I have tried different powders, used a different amount of product, tried a brush, tried a sponge, tried it with a finger. Nothing helped it prevent from creasing and settling into fine lines, which is such a pity. I usually already look like a mess after one hour of wearing this concealer under the eyes.

The pigmentation, as you can see on the picture above, is very good. I like a medium coverage because it keeps everything quite natural and not too heavy looking. The concealer gets rid of some of the darkness and pigmentation spots on my eyes. These pictures, however, were taken 5 minutes apart and even though I did set the concealer on the right picture it already started to crease. I’m not looking for a concealer that creases that quickly.

It was fun to test out the waters of Kevyn Aucoin but I must admit that I am slightly disappointed. This would have been the perfect concealer if it wasn’t such a creasy mess.
I’ll just stick to my beloved Catrice Concealer thank you very much. If you still want to purchase this concealer, it is available on Beauty Bay for €24,75.

What do you think of this concealer and which concealer is your favourite?
Lots of love and see you next time!

    1. I was on a splurge and it happened before I became rational again, haha :p And thank you so much!! xx

  3. I usually think that spending a lot on concealer is a no go as you use a lot of it and it can’t last a long time. I would rather add a bit more and buy high end foundation or BB cream as those are quite hard to find in drugstore. Still it’s fun to try out expensive makeup, because we are all curious of is it magical, what it makes it so expensive. xx
