Hello loves,
Faux by MAC Cosmetics. Probably the most know lip colour of all time. Thanks to Kylie Jenner. What if the hype is quite disappointing for you?
Mac Mac Mac. I love their lipsticks to bits and I own quite a few of them. I have loved every single one of them. From Mehr, Whirl, Chili, Mamastarrr and Peach Blossom. All true favourites of mine. Today, I will be reviewing Faux. A colour which unfortunately won’t fit into that favourites category of mine.
Packaging is the well known standard packaging of MAC Cosmetics lipsticks. A black bullet shaped tube with hundreds of silver sparkles embossed into it, aswell as the MAC logo. It has a good shutter system and most of the information can be found on the bottom of the tube. Faux retails for โฌ19,50 and can be found on MAC’s official website or authorized retailers.
Faux has a satin finish which means that there should be a nice amount of pigmentation, a shiny finish, less dehydrating and a decent wearability. I love this type of finish, especially during the summer. It doesn’t dry out your lips but instead it gives them some hydration which can be much needed. The pigmentation is also quite nice. You only need one swipe on each lip and some precision work to achieve a perfect lip. Faux is not patchy or blotchy. Very nice and opaque, indeed!
The wearability is also quite nice. It doesn’t last as long as a matte lipstick but Faux will survive at least half a day and perhaps a nice, small meal. Luckily, a satin lipstick is very easy to re-apply!
However, now comes the tricky and disappointing part of this review. The colour is not my cup of tea. I really don’t like how the undertone of this lipstick clashes with the undertone of my skin. I’m quite the yellow undertone and therefore Faux comes out much more purple than pink. It looks a bit bleak and greyish and just plain weird on my skintone. It also occurs that because I’m a yellow undertone, the lipstick pulls of cool and I am not a cool-toned fan. It’s such a pity honestly because I’ve seen people wearing Faux and it being absolutely lush.
It’s such a pity that Faux didn’t work for my skintone because I love everything about the lipstick. The wearability, the finish, the hydrating feel. I’m just not a fan of the colour. So unfortunate but I guess I will have to live with it. I cannot change my undertone can I?
Unfortunate events happen all the time and I’m quite bummed about this one but on to the next lipstick it is! What did you think of Faux and do you own it?
Lots of love and see you next time!
